Act of 2010 |
Carbon Monoxide poisoning is the leading cause of accidental poisoning in the United
States according to the American Medical Association
High concentrations of this colorless,
orderless gas can cause cognitive impairment, loss of consciousness, and/or coma, and is responsible for an average of 450
death and more than 20,000 emergency room visits in the U.S. each year |
Effective July
1st, 2011: - All existing single-family homes that contain a gas heater or gas appliance, fireplace
or an attached garage must install carbon monoxide alarms.
- CO alarms must be either battery-powered or A/C powered with
battery backup.
- CO alarms must be installed outside of sleeping areas and on every level of a dwelling.
